BESTeam Feature: : UpcycleRecycleReuse

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a saver. I can't bear to throw out things that might have a good use. I love converting what would be waste materials into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?

Master Production Scheduler for Military Ballistic Eyewear

What inspires you?

Paper Materials, Pretty pictures…
How do you get out of your creative ruts?

I do not have ruts so much as I do not have enough time for all my ideas to come to fruition.

How did you originally get into the business of making things?

I have been making things since I was a little girl. I have been selling things almost as long.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Upcycle, Recycle, Reuse is where old products are given more value not less. The goal of this shop is to prevent wasting potentially useful materials by making use of existing ones. This reduces the consumption of new raw materials when creating new products. Reducing the use of new raw materials can result in a reduction of energy usage, air pollution, water pollution and even greenhouse gas emissions.

What does handmade mean to you?

Being creative, loving what you are doing, and output for my creative energy. I can only cook and garden so much.

How would you describe your creative process?

Ideas just pop in my head and I struggle to make them all a reality.

Where would you like to be in ten years?

Right where I am.

Welcome to my Bling Filled Life

WOW I don't even know where to start this week! It's been pretty crazy! Due to the Canada Post strike I pretty much have been taking time off this week to do some wedding prep.

In Memory of Casper Hollands
This week has been in dedication of Casper. A wonderful gentle soul that we lost at the beginning of the week. He was kept home until the very end. His spirit is still with us but we miss him very VERY much.

Since nothing has been happening in the studio, my mood has been incredibly low and I have been sleeping alot due to the depression and low energy. I hope I will get a burst of energy when I start getting mail again. It's amazing how much receiving mail affects my mood. I absolutely LOVE going to get the mail. I always have.

As soon as the maill starts coming again I am going to be SOOO incredibly busy. Not to mention I am moving at the end of July so that will make things a bit more hectic as well!

So for now I let you go and tune in next Sunday for what I have been up to this week!

BESTeam Feature:: Blue & White Wear

Meet Claire of BlueWhiteJewelryWear on Etsy!! Another creative jewelry talent this week.!!

What decade or style inspires you?

Anything oriental - I love all arts and crafts of China, Japan, Thailand, India. etc...

Where would you like to be in ten years?

I would like to be retired and creating jewelry full-time for my etsy shop. Hopefully, it will become more profitable if and when i have more time and energy to devote to it. I will still continue to travel, but I do not know where I want to live.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?

I am teacher by day! I love working with kids and getting them excited about learning.
I love to travel and explore other cultures.
I also do some quilting and knitting and digital scrapbooking is my newest addiction.

What handmade possession do you most cherish?

There is not one in particular. Our house if full of handmade crafts from our travels - I love having them around me as it reminds me of the people and places we have visited. There are Chinese peasant paintings and lots of blue & white porcelain; celedon pieces from Thailand, Indonesian puppets, pottery from Korea, watercolor painting of a familiar Singaporean sight, etc...
